An industrial trip to Markfed Canneries, Jalandhar was organized for the students of B. Sc.(biotechnology) Hons. on Nov. 20. The trip was an opportunity for them to understand the the working of various processing lines such as tomato ketchup line, fruit and jam lines and saag line etc. They also got a first-hand experience of the Honey processing unit. The production manager Mr Nagpal explained the underlying principles of the working of various instruments used therein. He detailed the students on the variety of various ethnic foods, pickles, murabba, bottled products, dalia, spices, types of tea and gur/shakkar which are being produced in the facility. The students were also shown the packaging and despatch unit. The students also raised queries about the job opportunities in this Government run set-up which were dealt by the their staff very well. It was a great experience for all of them.
